Work Schedule: Candidates must be based in the United States to be considered. Should be open to working Eastern or Central Time (ET/CT) hours.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Data Privacy Officer to join our Legal team at Real. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, detecting, analyzing, and responding to data privacy and protection risks. This role requires a deep understanding of privacy regulations and an ability to apply them to our data processing and marketing practices. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including IT and Marketing, to implement a data protection framework by design and default, ensuring trust among executive stakeholders and consumers.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and regulations, as well as maintaining adherence to various industry standards and regulations. This role will combine privacy and compliance responsibilities and provide a cohesive approach to managing our organization's data privacy and compliance needs

  • Create and enforce data privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines

  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging best practices related to data privacy and provide recommendations for adjustments to our practices and policies

  • Research and communicate changes in relevant laws, regulations, and standards impacting compliance status

  • Respond to data requests; log requests or complaints and escalate issues as necessary

  • Oversee data governance and retention policies

  • Conduct thorough data privacy assessments of third-party vendors

  • Ensure vendors comply with the organization's data privacy and security requirements

  • Collaborate with legal team to ensure vendor agreements align with data privacy standards and regulations

  • Promote a culture of security, privacy, and ethical behavior within the organization

  • Work closely with IT and product teams to design and implement appropriate IT controls, processes, and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements such as PCI DSS, NIST CSF, and IT general controls

  • Conduct data protection impact assessments on existing applications, new applications and enhancements

  • Maintain the Privacy Risk Register

  • Fulfill additional, relevant, tasks appropriate to the role and business demands

  • Assist in product integration and enhance business value where necessary

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of encryption mechanisms (data at rest and transit)

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to practical scenarios

  • Detail-oriented and proactive approach to identify risks, gaps, and areas for improvement in privacy compliance

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate privacy-related concepts to diverse stakeholders

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and manage multiple projects concurrently

  • Familiarity with data protection impact assessments, data mapping, and other compliance-related tools and methodologies.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as privacy, information management, or a related discipline

  • Strong knowledge of global privacy regulations, such as CCPA, and other relevant laws, guidelines, and frameworks

  • Proven experience building or managing compliance programs within a technology or financial services context.
