Job Description

Virta Health is on a mission to transform type 2 diabetes and weight-loss care. Current treatment approaches aren’t working—over half of US adults have either type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, and obesity rates are at an all-time high. Virta is changing this by helping people reverse their metabolic condition through innovations in technology, personalized nutrition, and virtual care delivery reinvented from the ground up. We have raised over $350 million from top-tier investors, and partner with the largest health plans, employers, and government organizations to help their employees and members restore their health and take back their lives. Join us on our mission to reverse diabetes and obesity in one billion people.

We’re scaling fast and we’re focused on building a strong operational foundation to support high-quality, scalable care for our members. The Director, Business Operations and Strategy, Care Enablement will play a central role in this mission. Reporting to the VP of Care Operations, this leader will drive workforce strategy, capacity planning, tooling and systems improvements, supplies operations and logistics, and experimentation around new care models. You’ll manage a small, high-performing team and serve as a key business leader helping us grow efficiently while maintaining the exceptional outcomes we’re known for.

This is an ideal role for a former startup operator, consultant, or MBA who thrives at the intersection of strategy, analytics, and execution—and who wants to apply those skills to meaningfully impact healthcare at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Team Management

    • Lead care enablement strategy across workforce planning, panel and capacity management, and care tools and systems.

    • Manage and mentor a small team (2-3 FTEs to start), supporting prioritization, execution, and professional development.

    • Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to Care leadership, including the VP Coaching/Member Success, VP Clinical Excellence, and others.

    • Translate company goals into operational plans that align care team capacity with demand—now and as we scale.

  • Data-Driven Execution & Scaling

    • Own and evolve capacity planning models for our Coaching and Clinical teams, driving improvements in panel coverage, staffing efficiency, and forecast accuracy

    • Oversee care team tooling and systems, partnering with Product and Engineering to automate workflows and eliminate friction.

    • Monitor and report on key performance indicators—such as coach productivity, retention impact, gross margin drivers—and use insights to shape operations.

  • Supplies Operations & Fulfillment

    • Oversee end-to-end operations for care-related supplies (e.g. medical kits, testing devices), ensuring reliable delivery, cost efficiency, and a seamless member experience.

    • Partner with Clinical, Product, and Finance teams to forecast supply needs, optimize inventory, and improve fulfillment processes.

    • Track and analyze supply usage and cost trends, tying insights back to care model efficiency and gross margin performance.

    • Design and test enhancements to our supplies model, including member self-service tools, automation opportunities, and integration with clinical workflows.

  • Innovation & Care Model Redesign

    • Design and test innovative care delivery models and staffing approaches, balancing cost, quality, and member experience.

    • Launch lean pilots and operational experiments to validate new models—partnering with Data Science to define metrics and analyze impact.

    • Stay ahead of trends in digital health and tech-enabled services to identify opportunities for systems-level improvement.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership

    • Collaborate across Product, Data, Finance, Recruiting, and Clinical teams to ensure operational plans are aligned and well-executed.

    • Build business cases for investments in tooling, automation, and team structure that drive margin expansion and service quality.

    • Synthesize complex data and ideas into clear, actionable recommendations for Virta’s senior leadership.

Must-Haves

  • Have 7–10+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, or consulting—ideally with time spent at a high-growth startup or digital health company.

  • Hold an MBA or have equivalent experience in high-impact strategic roles requiring analytical thinking and cross-functional execution.

  • Have worked in fast-paced ops roles where you built systems from zero to one.

  • Bring strong data fluency—comfortable with forecasting models, performance metrics, and operational KPIs (bonus if you’ve used tools like SQL or Looker).

  • Are a systems thinker who can architect processes across people, platforms, and tools—and turn strategy into action quickly.

  • Are an effective people leader, experienced in developing talent, building high-functioning teams, and managing through ambiguity.

  • Thrive in fast-moving environments where scrappiness, ownership, and bias for action are critical.

  • Want to apply your skills to a mission that has real-world impact on millions of lives.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Exposure to virtual care, digital health, or tech-enabled services.

  • Experience with operational fulfillment (e.g. logistics, device delivery).

  • Familiarity with AI-enabled tools or automation platforms that support scaling service operations.

Values-driven culture

Virta’s company values drive our culture, so you’ll do well if:

  • You put people first and take care of yourself, your peers, and our patients equally

  • You have a strong sense of ownership and take initiative while empowering others to do the same

  • You prioritize positive impact over busy work

  • You have no ego and understand that everyone has something to bring to the table regardless of experience

  • You appreciate transparency and promote trust and empowerment through open access of information

  • You are evidence-based and prioritize data and science over seniority or dogma

  • You take risks and rapidly iterate
