Hello! We're Teya.
Teya is a payment and software service provider, headquartered in London serving small, local businesses across Europe. Founded in 2019, we build easy to use, integrated tools that enable our members to accept payments and boost business performance.
At Teya we believe small, local businesses are the lifeblood of our communities.
We’re here because we don’t believe there’s a level playing field that gives small businesses with a fighting chance against the giants of the high street.
We’re here because we see banks and legacy service providers making things harder for them. We don’t think the best technology or the best service should be reserved for those with the biggest headquarters.
We’re here to fight for a future where small, local businesses can thrive, and to commit the same dedication they offer all of us.
Become a part of our story.
We’re looking for exceptional talent to join our mission. We offer a chance to create impact in a high-energy and connected culture, while benefiting from continuous learning opportunities, a supportive community which is proud to serve our mission, and comprehensive benefits.
Your Mission
As an Engineering Manager for the Business Account team at Teya, you’ll play a key role in shaping the platform that powers how small and medium businesses manage and grow their finances. You’ll lead a highly technical team of engineers working on a backend stack—Java, Kotlin, and Kafka—to build robust, scalable systems with performance and reliability at their core.
You’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality, customer facing features in one of our most strategic product areas. This role combines hands-on technical guidance with people leadership. You’ll support your team in solving complex engineering problems while also investing in their growth and career development. You’ll work closely with product, design, and other engineering leaders to ensure we ship impactful features that make a real difference for our users.
We’re looking for someone technical, curious, and pragmatic. Someone who’s excited to build high-performing teams and scalable systems in a fast-moving environment.
What you’ll be doing
Lead a team of backend engineers building core services for the Business Account product
Manage performance, development, and career growth of individual team members through regular feedback, coaching, and formal reviews
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver features that serve small business customers across Europe
Own delivery quality and velocity—setting the tone for clean architecture, performance, and long-term maintainability
Contribute to roadmap planning and help define technical direction for the team
Guide the design and implementation of reliable, high-throughput backend systems
Monitor system health, drive reliability improvements, and ensure uptime targets are met
Support recruitment efforts through interviewing, onboarding, and team capacity planning
Your Story
1–3 years of experience managing engineers, including performance management and career growth
5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, ideally working with Java, Kotlin, or similar backend technologies
Strong experience designing scalable backend systems and working with event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar)
Clear, structured communicator who can articulate tradeoffs and decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.)
Comfortable navigating complex systems and coaching others through ambiguity
