Job Description

At Docker, we make app development easier so developers can focus on what matters. Our remote-first team spans the globe, united by a passion for innovation and great developer experiences. With over 20 million monthly users and 20 billion image pulls, Docker is the #1 tool for building, sharing, and running apps—trusted by startups and Fortune 100s alike. We’re growing fast and just getting started. Come join us for a whale of a ride!

We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead the Docker Desktop product which is the cornerstone of the Docker developer experience. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on product management, overseeing the product vision, roadmap, and execution across all components of Docker Desktop—including Docker Engine, Docker Compose, Build, Model Runner, Testcontainers, Kubernetes integration, and more. You will collaborate closely with engineering, design, marketing, sales, and customer success teams to deliver a seamless, powerful experience for millions of developers worldwide.

Success in this role requires a balance of strategic thinking and tactical execution. A deep understanding of developer workflows, containerization, and cross-platform desktop applications is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Docker Desktop, aligning with company objectives and customer needs.

  • Engage directly with customers to gather feedback, understand pain points, and validate solutions.

  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to deliver high-quality features and improvements on time and within scope.

  • Analyze product performance metrics to inform decisions and optimize user experience.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to inform product strategy.

  • Communicate product plans, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of product management experience.

  • Proven track record of managing complex desktop applications across multiple platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux).

  • Strong technical background, with familiarity in container technologies, developer tools, and system-level software.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.

  • Experience working in a remote-first, globally distributed team environment.

What to expect in the first 30 days:

  • Onboard with Docker’s mission, values, and team structures.

  • Familiarize yourself with the current Docker Desktop product, roadmap, and user base.

  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders across product, engineering, design, and marketing.

What to expect in the first 90 days:

  • Refine and communicate the product vision and strategy for Docker Desktop.

  • Initiate user research and data analysis to inform roadmap prioritization.

  • Deliver initial product improvements or features based on user feedback and strategic goals.

What to expect in the first year:

  • Achieve significant milestones in product development, user satisfaction, and adoption metrics.

  • Contribute to Docker’s overall product strategy and company growth initiatives.
