Summary

The Senior Tax Accountant I will ensure global tax compliance and accurate financial reporting across multiple jurisdictions. This position involves reviewing complex tax returns, preparing tax provisions under ASC 740 and IAS 12, and supporting the calculation of effective tax rates. The role also includes managing reconciliations, improving tax accounting processes, and staying ahead of evolving tax laws. By working closely with external advisors and auditors, the Senior Tax Accountant I helps maintain the integrity of Deel’s global tax strategy and supports the company’s rapid international growth.



Responsibilities

  • Review of complex income tax returns for various jurisdictions (Federal, State/Local for US; various European countries, VAT, GST for EMEA), ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax laws and regulations.

  • Calculate and analyze the Company's global and regional Effective Tax Rate (ETR) for financial reporting purposes (e.g., ASC 740 / IAS 12), including the preparation of tax provision calculations, deferred tax assets/liabilities, and related disclosures.

  • Perform detailed reconciliations of tax accounts to the general ledger and prepare supporting tax workpapers.

  • Assist in the implementation and continuous improvement of tax accounting processes and controls, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.

  • Support the management of direct and indirect tax compliance, including Withholding Tax and other relevant levies.

  • Contribute to the monitoring of the Group’s tax policy (e.g., Transfer Pricing studies, tax structures) and liaising with external auditors.

  • Research and monitor new tax laws and developments, assessing their respective impacts on the Company's tax positions and financial statements.

  • Work closely with outside tax advisors and auditors to ensure timely and accurate tax filings and reporting.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Taxation, Accounting or Finance.

  • CPA certification (or equivalent professional accounting qualification for EMEA, e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) strongly preferred.

  • Law degree and/or MBA a strong plus.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax accounting, compliance, and/or tax provision preparation, preferably in a large multinational corporation (MNC) and/or a Big4 public accounting firm.

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and reviewing complex tax returns and calculating Effective Tax Rates (ETR) / tax provisions (ASC 740 / IAS 12).

  • Solid understanding of relevant tax laws, accounting principles (US GAAP or IFRS), and tax regulations applicable to the assigned region (US or EMEA).

  • Proactive and experienced communicator with the ability to articulate complex tax concepts clearly to non-tax professionals and influence cross-organizational processes.

  • Highly analytical, efficient, and creative problem-solver, comfortable with ambiguity, complexity, and nuance in tax matters.

  • Computer software skills: Proficient in MS Office tools (especially Excel for tax calculations and data analysis); Experience with tax preparation software (e.g., OneSource, GoSystem, SAP Tax) and/or ERP systems is a significant advantage.

  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and strong writing skills in English.

  • Ability to work closely with others in a team environment and establish positive working relationships, while also demonstrating independent drive and professionalism in a multinational setting.
