We are currently seeking a Solar Programs, Senior Manager - Consumer Protection to join our Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) Department. As a member of the DERs Department, you will assist with driving customer participation in programs that incentivize the adoption of distributed and community solar. Solar energy is critical in driving our nation’s progress toward a decarbonized grid, and you will play a material role in helping our team make this future a reality.
This position will report to the Director of the Consumer Protection team and will support our work as the Program Administrator for Illinois Shines. Illinois Shines is the statewide incentive program aimed at assisting people across Illinois to more affordably transition to solar power. To meet Illinois’ goal of having 100% of its energy come from renewable energy sources by 2050, it is imperative that consumers’ rights are protected when working with companies registered with the Program. Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Investigating allegations of Program violations escalated by team
- Making recommendations for informal mediation, potential pre-disciplinary and disciplinary action for apparent and/or confirmed Program violations based upon Program requirements
- Timely drafting letters to entities alleged or confirmed to have violated Program requirements, consistent with standard operating procedures
- Identifying trends in consumer complaints and Program violations; recommending potential proactive measures to help promote Program compliance and reduce consumer protection violations
- Supervising staff on the Consumer Protection team and assisting with their successful completion of assigned tasks and their overall career development
- Maintaining and developing client relationships, serving as a trusted partner for our current and new clients
- Organizing and leading in-person meetings, conference calls, and collaboration sessions with client as well as program participants and customers
- Managing overall direction, execution, quality control and completion of project deliverables
- Attend and contribute to monthly Consumer Protections Working Group meetings with regional consumer advocacy groups.
- Developing an effective process to communicate project progress across a large team, management, and clients
- Coordinating with Team Lead on oversight of a team of project managers and associates
- Tracking deliverables, milestones, and following up with stakeholders and team members to ensure they are on task to complete action items
- Tracking key performance metrics and goals
- Review of team’s market research and data analysis deliverables
- Participating in and leading cross-department meetings and discussion, prioritize and delegate follow-up items, track and report progress
- Effectively prioritizing and managing additional ad-hoc requests and responsibilities
Minimum qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in consumer protection, legal, investigations, compliance and/or complex project management OR a Juris Doctorate and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in consumer protection, legal, investigations, compliance and/or complex project management
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience in a staff supervisory role
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage demanding caseload
- Ability to interact professionally with clients and to serve as the primary point of client contact
- Demonstrated outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, including risk management and mitigation
- Demonstrated ability to conduct collaborative facilitated sessions
- Ability to work in a team-oriented collegial and collaborative, but fast-paced and dynamic environment at a growing company
- Extensive experience using Microsoft Office (Office365, SharePoint, OneNote)
- A cover letter will be required explaining your interest in the role, experience with analytical/investigatory writing; and experience supervising employees (the use of AI is prohibited in the drafting)
Desired qualifications:
- Experience with consumer protection and/or compliance
- Knowledge of solar policies, terminology, and programs
- Experience with Salesforce
Compensation to commensurate with experience with the pay band of $105,000 - $137,000/Annually
